MOLECULAR PROFILING

The molecular profiling of a tumor is a type of genetic analysis performed on tissue removed from a patient’s tumor, in order to identify unique features that determine the patient’s treatment and prognosis.

These unique characteristics can be any form of genetic change (mutations, rearrangements, etc.) and any other biomarker.

Although two people may have the same type of cancer, their cancers can vary significantly at the molecular level. Molecular profiling tests identify these unique differences so that oncologists can determine if there are therapies designed for any of the biomarkers that are found.

The combination of tumor profiling results and the potential targeted therapies aid towards the application of evidence-based, personalized/precision medicine.
